Die Abteiruine ist eines der schönsten und ältesten Beispiele gotischer Kirchenbauten in Italien und wurde später das Vorbild für die Kathedrale von Siena. Um 1224 begann der Zisterzienserorden mit dem Bau.
Abbey St. Galgano
Built between 1224 and 1300 from the Cistercian. Saint Galgano Abbey was Tuscany's first pure Gothic church.
Montesiepi
Auf dem Hügel neben San Galgano steht die ehemalige Einsiedelei des Heiligen mit Kapelle. Er ist in der Kirche begraben.
The hermitage of Montesiepi built at the end of the 12th century as a mausoleum for the saint. He is buried in the church.

I was in Tuscany last year at this time so I appreciate your photos and recognize the cyprss trees.I thought that they grew that way naturally but a owner of a vineyard explained to me that they are planted that way for the scenic effect..love reminders of my trip to Tuscany..thank you for posting!
